Keanu Reeves is one of the most popular action superstars of today. He has worked in several popular action films including The Matrix, and more recently, John Wick.
Keanu Reeves has shown support for the second amendment in the past. He is not entirely pro-gun, but also is not against citizens owning a weapon. Keanu personally does not own a gun.
Keanu Reeves’ Experience with Guns
For anyone looking for awesome gun fights and dealings between mercenaries, John Wick is a good recommendation. In the films, Keanu uses his own unique fighting style which has been dubbed “Gun Fu” by fans as a combination of Kung Fu and Guns.
The film shows Reeves’ character, John, going through waves of enemies and shooting each one with extreme precision. Keanu had to learn to shoot like John Wick and master close combat techniques before shooting the film. He was trained by Taran Butler of Taran Tactical for his earlier films.
The reason Keanu has not deterred from showing extreme violence in his films is because he does not quite link movie violence with the real-world kind. When asked about showing violence in his film Henry’s Crime, Keanu stated that he was not going to be frivolous with it, but he also does not believe it translates into violence off-screen.
He was also famously asked by The Independent about Gun Control in an interview about his upcoming films. Keanu replied by saying that citizens should be able to have a weapon. While he is not fundamentally against citizens owning a weapon, he also believes it comes with complications and is not the wisest thing to do.
While Keanu himself does not own a firearm, he is quite capable of handling one. He has performed in a few multi-gun competitions which require the user to transition between pistols, rifles, and shotguns. When it came to John Wick 2, Keanu was trained by the ex-Israeli counter-terrorism operator Aaron Cohen to handle an AR-15 and complete concealment pistol draws.
While watching films like John Wick, it is clearly visible that Keanu has had expert training in preparing for the film. While shooting, he does not make any ridiculous spray and pray, but rather keeps shooting until his target has been dispatched.
Gun Control and Cinema
Keanu Reeves has never been like your average movie star. He works hard to perform amazing roles, while also being one of the kindest and most humble actors in Hollywood. He is one of the only actors who have taken the stand for the right to own guns.
Over the past several years, Hollywood has in general placed itself in a very hypocritical situation. It has become a world where celebrities love showing firearms in Hollywood films, but also simultaneously hate them in real life. This makes the opinions of movie stars not taken seriously when it comes to the 2nd Amendment.
Over the past several years, celebs have started taking a harder stance against guns and have been calling them the real problem. The irony in this can be seen when actors stand against organizations such as the National Rifle Association and at the same time defend the violent content that shows up in their films.
Jennifer Lawrence for one, has previously called guns the real problem instead of the entertainment industry. It is because of situations such as this that it becomes even more shocking when an actor like Keanu Reeves comes forth with the idea that there does not seem to be a problem with citizens owning guns.
While Reeves himself does not correlate the violence on-screen with real world shootings, he is not a hypocrite and accepts that the right to bear arms is a real right that belongs with the people. We love him even more for his honesty and acceptance now.
